The Dogwatch Travel, Shaving, and Signal Mirror

Description

The Dogwatch Travel, Shaving, and Signal Mirror is modeled after a similar mirror carried by Lt. George Jacobs of the 228th Fusiliers while deployed in France during WWI. It is manufactured entirely in Minneapolis/St. Paul, and we have sourced the materials from U.S. companies whenever possible. Its logo “LOOK HARD” is adapted from the “WALK HARD” slogan printed on the original mirror in the same position. 

Each mirror is hand stamped with a unique issue number. This number also appears on the matching case which is made of 10.10 oz. Army duck canvas from Fairfield Textiles in New Jersey, and is lined with fine camel hair fabric produced at American Woolen mills in Connecticut. 

The case is held in place with a “bolo” that contains a natural bone button. The standard issue is our signature orange, but we offer several other versions you can pick up separately. Don’t miss the back pocket on the case, which is designed to house a Rite in the Rain “On the Go” notebook, as well as our OHTO pen and pencils. You’ll always be prepared!

Initially polished to a #8 (mirror) finish, the 14 gauge 304-2B steel mirror is meant to patina over time. It, like the original, will show the imprint of your own travels. Like we see in so many of the great adventure tales, like Ishmael in “Moby Dick,” the further we go outward and see the world, the more these experiences reflect ourselves and take us inward.
