Hand-Spliced Dog Leash – Cream/Blue

This high quality dog leash is fully hand made at the Dogwatch Studio, and uses the finest materials available. The soft cotton three strand rope is easy on the hands. Unlike the more common polyester leashes, when it runs out through the hand it does not burn.  The Italian leather is sourced to provide quality and longevity. These natural materials patina over time and exhibit the timeless nature of cotton, leather, and brass.

Our hand-spliced leash starts with a length of three-strand cotton rope from Knot and Rope Supply in Perrysburg, Ohio. A guest on our podcast, Knot and Rope Supply provides materials of outstanding quality. Each end of the rope is spliced using the “eye splice” technique. This provides the loops for the handle and brass trigger clasp. These spliced regions create a thicker section of rope that is good for gripping. The free ends of the splice are then bound in Italian Valdibrana vegetable tanned leather from Tuscany, and are sewn with the running suture, or “baseball stitch” to create a lasting and beautiful covering. The splice covers are then sewn in place through brass grommets. Finally, the handle is sewn on, which creates a pleasing grip that allows the quality of the Valibrana leather to shine, and conforms to the hand over time.
